An update: Just yesterday CNN revealed a new morning news line up that practically mirrors what is outlined here in this blog. An early segment with two anchors from 5-7am and then a new show running from 7-9am with another anchor. http://bit.ly/vkxEWr

It's always the case. Things go in cycles. The challenge for any human - but even more so for large companies - is to enjoy the up times and be willing to admit that you've called something wrong. Fast enough.

When things change they stay the same. Thanks for the link David - wonderful assessment. And from the past to the present - Robert thank you for your take on Wikileaks and the use of diplomatic "off the record". I think we are learning that the constraints of the last several decades are being removed. New rules for a new day.

I think so called "old school" journalists in the Woodward and Bernstein mold forget journalism's true roots. Ill-trained scouts racing about town writing the most sensational stuff they could find. Fact checking? Ha. And that was in the Gilded Age of journalism when every city worth it's salt had multiple dailies. Smithsonian Magazine has a great piece on it: http://bit.ly/hAdjsy
Sounds more like journalism today than the journalism of the 1950-90's. Back to the future?

The same disconnect between off record and on record is being seen in the divide between those who support Wikileaks and those who don't. The US Government is trying to vilify Bradley Manning, and his supporters see him as a hero. It comes down to questions of whether there is a diplomatic "off the record" anymore and whether it is justified. The old guard says yes the new communication instruments say privacy must be redefined in an era where openness and transparency are demanded at all levels.
